With the school year back upon us, and as we return to our standard worship hours, I find myself getting excited for a return to regular Youth Group activities. With Confirmation Class meeting during the Sunday School hour and Youth Group meeting Sunday Evenings this year, it’s an excellent opportunity to spend time with the Youth of the church and watch as they continue to grow and develop in their lives of faith.
Teaching is always an incredible learning opportunity, especially when you are teaching teenagers, as the questions they ask can force you to reassess beliefs you’d held for a long time. They don’t necessarily break down your assumptions, but it’s a great way to see if those assumptions hold up under extended scrutiny.
Plus, it’s fun. We sometimes get over-serious in church, and hanging with the kids gives an opportunity to let loose a bit, and remember that serving God is about fun as well as the more serious stuff.
