I just preached what might have been the worst sermon since I’ve come to
PCOWS!
Last night we had a bad storm that led to us cancelling the Lenten Soup
Supper and going entirely virtual for the prayer service. There were some
unexpected technical difficulties, but even without those, I was just standing
in front of my computer, staring at my camera, trying not to look at the image
my computer was sending of me, and…
UGH.
All that poise and flexibility so many of you have complimented in me just
went out the window. I was an absolute wreck.
It was a neat reminder of how important we all are in the process, even when
it is something like a sermon, where one would assume that all you all do is sit
and listen while I talk. But you don’t, you interact in small ways that give me
energy and help me craft the sermon.
I’m not saying we’re just going to cancel services outright in the future… I’ll
just need to remember to have a more scripted sermon when my audience is
entirely virtual. But it is a fun reminder that the ministry of the church
involves all of… even when we can only see one person active.
