As I write, we are in the process of approaching Confirmation Sunday, which will take place on May 5th, and four of our Confirmation Students will be standing up in front of the Congregation to become members of our church. This is a very exciting time in the life of a Church, and the cumulation of two years of study for our Confirmands.
As the final part of their program leading to Confirmation, each Confirmand was asked to write a statement of faith, a simple one-page document where they express their faith as they understand it in this moment. This was not meant as a binding document, they haven’t signed on to it forever, it’s just a check in, a state of the faith thing.
It’s something I highly recommend everyone try. Faith should be an ever-evolving thing, growing or receding according to how life is going, and it’s worth remembering that what we believed when we were teenagers is probably not the same as what we believe now.
So, if you have any interest, ask me and I will send you the questions I used as prompts for our confirmands to write their faith statements, or even take a swing at doing it without the help. You might be surprised to learn how your faith has changed over the years. And then, if you would like for your faith to grow from there, you have a better idea of what that might look like!
